This season, Preußen Münster is playing in the 2. Bundesliga for the first time in 33 years. During the last league match in Münster, "Uns Uwe" still shone with a hat-trick, back on the first matchday of the newly founded Bundesliga in 1963. Since we weren’t fortunate enough to be there back then, this trip was of course on the agenda this time. Unfortunately, Jesus was the only one who managed to snag a ticket for the match. It’s not exactly easy when they don’t even have a whole stadium...
Without our regular chauffeur B-jay, it was time to say "Hello Deutsche Bahn" for the first time in a long while. And, as one might expect, they lived up to their reputation, the planned train was cancled. So, instead of taking the direct route to Münster, we had to take a little detour via Hamm (Westf.) to reach our destination. Thankfully, we had planned generously, so we still arrived on time.
Even with a police escort, the buses there take an eternity to make progress. With a bicycle—which Münster is famous for—we probably would have gotten to the stadium faster.
A quick stop at the beer stand, and then off to the stands. Though, we could’ve skipped that part. Thanks to the roof and support pillars, you can’t see much anyway, and when it feels like there are more flags in the block than fans, you hardly see anything at all. But it didn’t matter—we didn’t miss much. Mask-man Davie eventually saved one of the worst halves of the season.
Thanks to skipping the beer stand during halftime and some tactical repositioning, the view improved in the second half—and so did the game. In the end, the hard-fought but deserved 2:1 for our HSV was on the "scoreboard".
Luckily, the railway managed to fix its overhead lines in the meantime, so nothing stood in the way of a relaxed journey back.
Let’s see if it’ll take another 62 years before we get to play there again. Though, by then, it’ll probably be without our involvement once more.
